The Relationship between Clinical Stress, Fatigue, Satisfaction and Self-efficacy in Clinical Practice of Nursing Students

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the levels of clinical stress, fatigue, satisfaction and self-efficacy of nursing students in clinical practice, and to examine the relationship of the variables.

Methods: The participants were 128 3rd-year female nursing students. Data were collected from December 5 to December 20, 2013 by taking a survey with the self-administered questionnaires. Data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 18.0 program.

Results: The results of this study were as follows: The mean score of clinical stress was 2.74(¡¾0.62), fatigue was 3.30(¡¾0.52), satisfaction in clinical practice was 3.06(¡¾0.48), and self-efficacy was 3.29(¡¾0.52). The participants having satisfaction with nursing as a major highly were shown higher satisfaction in clinical practice and self-efficacy. There was a negative correlation between clinical stress and satisfaction in clinical practice, between fatigue and self-efficacy, and a positive correlation between satisfaction in clinical practice and self-efficacy.

Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that the level of clinical stress, fatigue, satisfaction and self efficacy in clinical practice can be influenced on the quality of nursing practice. Thus there is a need to develop program to reduce the clinical stress and fatigue and to improve satisfaction and self-efficacy in clinical practice.
